For farmers, suppliers and farmer organisations

ShambaLink

A market-linkage platform for agriculture. Farmers find markets, finance, inputs and equipment near them on a map, suppliers list what they stock, and organisations that support farmers can bring them on and follow every linkage they make.

Who it is for

Farmers and suppliers meet in the app. Organisations that support farmers can bring them on and follow what it does for them.

  • Farmers

Access farm services and market links. Farmers sign up in the app or are brought on by an organisation that supports them, then search for what they need from where they are.

  • Suppliers

Manage supplier listings and customer requests. Suppliers register themselves, set up their business so nearby farmers can find their equipment and inputs, and answer enquiries from their own dashboard.

  • Organisations

A co-operative, union, NGO, county programme or agribusiness enrols the farmers it supports and gets a dashboard of their activity and the linkages they make.

What a farmer finds

Each one is a map search from where the farmer is standing, filtered by distance and category, with directions out to it.

  • Markets

Where produce can be sold, by category, with distance and directions from where the farmer is standing.

  • Financial

Banks, SACCOs and insurers within reach, so credit and cover are a map search rather than a rumour.

  • Inputs

Seeds, fertiliser, agrochemicals, feed and veterinary supplies, listed by the suppliers who actually hold them.

  • Equipment

Tractors, ploughs and tillers, planters, sprayers, harvesters and irrigation equipment, for sale or hire.

For organisations

An organisation that brings farmers on gets a dashboard of its own. Not the platform's numbers, but its own farmers, their engagement and their linkages, over the last twelve months.

  • Your farmers: how many are enrolled, and how many were active in the last 30 days
  • Linkages: every farmer-to-supplier connection made, counted and charted by month
  • Order mix: which services the linkages ran through, equipment against inputs
The ShambaLink organisation dashboard: tiles for 15 farmers enrolled, 4 active in the last 30 days, 19 farmer-to-supplier linkages and 15 of 300 seats used, a return-on-subscription line, and farmer growth and order mix charts

How people get in

Three different doors, on purpose, and who may open which is enforced in the database, not in the app.

  • Farmers sign up or are enrolled

A farmer can sign up in the app. An organisation can also set up accounts for the farmers it supports and hand over the login details, by an emailed link or a temporary password passed on in person.

  • Suppliers self-register

A supplier signs up, names their business, picks what they stock from equipment and inputs, and drops a pin on their location so farmers searching nearby can find them.

  • Admins are provisioned

Organisation and platform administrators are never self-signed-up. They are created deliberately, and what each can see is enforced in the database rather than in the app.
